Academic Profile :

Born in Calcutta (Kolkata), India, on 1 January 1964, in a family of physiologists, I completed Bachelor of Science with honours in Geology and Master of Science in Geology from the University of Calcutta, India. Thereafter, I did research work in the Indian Statistical Institute on the stratigraphy and sedimentology of the Cretaceous Jabalpur and Lameta formations of central India. For this work I was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Geology from the University of Calcutta, India, in 1996. I am pursuing teaching and research activities as a professor in the Geological Studies Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute. I live in Kolkata with my wife and two children.
